Recent Collaboration with Australian Museum - Photographing their 'The Birds of Australia' Exhibition

I recently had the privilege of collaborating with Australian Museum to photograph their 'The Birds of Australia' exhibition. As a photographer, I absolutely love these projects. Capturing the spirit of the exhibition, designed for viewers in motion - in still images.

I find using the lighting set up for these exhibitions is the best approach. Soft directional light, leaving the backgrounds in the shadows, allowing colours and shapes to naturally pop using the richness of colour without loosing texture in the darkest tones.

Photographing the repetition and symmetry with the banners was a treat, with composition being one of my favourites aspects of photography. Translating the carefully curated, three-dimensional experience into two-dimensional images, finding endless possibilities of composition, line and light in unexpected places.

'The Birds of Australia' is on at Australian Museum until July 27th 2025
